Solve the system of equations. 8x – 3y = 1 –2x + 3y = 11

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. (–1, –3) B. (–1, 3) C. (2, 5) D. (5, 2)

OpenStudy (triciaal):

one of the 4 methods for solving simultanous equation is by elimination. the object is the make the coefficients of one of the variable equal and opposite so they will cancel out when the equations are added. you will have one equation with one variable. solve for this variable then substitute this value in the expressions to get the value of the other variable. it is a good practice to check the solution in either of the originals.

OpenStudy (triciaal):

for this question just add the equations since the y's are already equal and opposite then solve for x

OpenStudy (triciaal):

did you see C ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how would C be the answer I still don't see how any of them would be

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wouldn't it be D

@welshfella

OpenStudy (triciaal):

review the directions then follow let me know if you have trouble following the directions

OpenStudy (welshfella):

just add the 2 equations. The 3y and -3y will be eliminated and you'll have an equation in x only which is easy to solve.

OpenStudy (bee_see):

There are many ways to solve this. You can eliminate one variable . In this case, you can get rid of y.

OpenStudy (triciaal):

REPOST for this question just add the equations since the y's are already equal and opposite then solve for x same as what @welshfella repeated
