If x is less than 2 then which of following statements are always true? (a) x is negative (b) x is positive (c) x2 is greater than or equal to 2 (d) x2 is lesser than or equal to 2

OpenStudy (vanessaperezxo):

What do you think is the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not at all idea

OpenStudy (vanessaperezxo):

Well, give me your best guess! We can work from there!

OpenStudy (welshfella):

consider each one in turn (a) - is x necessarily negative?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

d?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

1 is less than 2

OpenStudy (vanessaperezxo):

ok, x can be anything less than 2... so it can be 1, 0, -1, -2, -3 etc.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@welshfella ,bt we cant say x will be negative as x can be =1 as well

OpenStudy (vanessaperezxo):

So out of all the answers I would have to agree that D is the answer unless there is more to the question

OpenStudy (vanessaperezxo):

Because x could be a negative and it could be a positive so that rules out a and b.

OpenStudy (welshfella):

yes definitely not a or b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup @vanessaperezxo

OpenStudy (vanessaperezxo):

The question is telling you that x is less that 2 (x<2) so there is no possible way that the answer is c... because x can NOT be greater than 2

OpenStudy (welshfella):

now as for c x can be 1 and 1^2 = 1

OpenStudy (vanessaperezxo):

So, that leaves you with D

OpenStudy (welshfella):

but if x = 1.9 x^2 = 3.61

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:( ....den what is the ans

OpenStudy (welshfella):

none are always true

OpenStudy (vanessaperezxo):

@welshfella but remember the question is telling you that x is less than 2.. so.. c is saying that x is greater than 2

OpenStudy (vanessaperezxo):

tbh d only makes sense because it says anything less than 2... but it also says less than or equal to and the problem doesn't tell you it's equal to it

OpenStudy (vanessaperezxo):

If I could pick 2 I would go with a and b because it could be positive or negative.

OpenStudy (welshfella):

no neither of them are always true - that's the key word ALWAYS

OpenStudy (welshfella):

are you sure you have the questsion correct @yashiii

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup question is correct @welshfella

OpenStudy (vanessaperezxo):

And the answers are correct too?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup dr

OpenStudy (vanessaperezxo):

ohhh wait! I got it!

OpenStudy (welshfella):

if we take the answers as they are written then none of them are always true.

OpenStudy (vanessaperezxo):

in this answer you can pick more than one! So the answer is A and B.... Because it is asking which one is ALWAYS TRUE.. A and B are always true... always

OpenStudy (vanessaperezxo):

Because x can be a positive so thats true.. but x can also be a negative, which is also true!

OpenStudy (vanessaperezxo):

@yashiii

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay dr

OpenStudy (vanessaperezxo):

@yashiii do you get it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup..i got it :) ..thnkew so mch

OpenStudy (vanessaperezxo):

No problem! Don't forget to fan and medal! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hehheh..check it out .i have already done it :)

OpenStudy (welshfella):

I guess i'm being ignored....

OpenStudy (vanessaperezxo):

Thank you! @yashiii

OpenStudy (vanessaperezxo):

@welshfella no your not, We payed attention

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not at all... @welshfella ..y u r thinking so ..
