Which expression is equivalent to 6a + 15? 6(a + 5) 3(2a + 5) 3(3a + 12) 6(a + 12)
You need to factor. To factor, you separate the coefficients (numbers) and the variables (letters), and factor separately. For example, to factor 7x+14, which is the same as 7(x)+14(1) For the coefficients, you would look at 7, 14 to find a common factor of 7. For the variables, x and 1 have nothing in common, so we'll just leave it. The factored expression becomes 7(x)+7(2) or 7(x+2). Which expression is equivalent to 6a + 15? 6(a + 5) = \(\sf (6 \times a) + (6 \times 5)\) 3(2a + 5) = \(\sf (3\times 2a) + (3\times 5)\) 3(3a + 12) = \(\sf (3 \times 3a) + (3\times 12)\) 6(a + 12) = \(\sf (6 \times a) + (6 \times 12)\)
