** I NEED HELP ** ( Will medal and fan like always ) ---- Diagram: http://prntscr.com/8as6gf --- Jocelyn wants to adopt one star for her mother and one star for her father. She has narrowed her choices down to four stars that are located on a straight line from the earth. Jocelyn wants to adopt the two stars that are closest to each other. 1. Which two stars should she adopt? 2. What is the distance between the stars? (Hint: Make a diagram and align the stars in order from closest to farthest from the earth.) 3. Show or explain your work. --- I don't really understand how t
I need to show my work on every problem at least, I don't really understand what to do though.

how do we know the distance between 2 things?
i dont know how your material does it, but id at least get them all speaking the same term ... the lowest exponent
.176 x 10^(14+4) -> 1760 x 10^4 22.13 x 10^(14+2) -> 2213 x 10^4 31.42 x 10^(14+0) -> 31.42 x 10^4 125.5 x 10^(14+1) -> 1255 x 10^4 now its simpler to compare the distances
bah, all those are 10^(14) not 10^(4) .... minor typo, but the rest is correct
So with that.. do I work them out? Sorry if I'm incorrect, I'm still a bit confused.
ideally yes, or logically we can conclude that 31 is not going to be closer to any of the others by default we can then average the low and high that remains to see where the middle falls .... (2213+1255)/2 = 1734 the middle is on the high side of 1734 so we have our closest starts
part 2 is just listing the starts by order of distance, and 3 is explaining your work
but the thing is, my thought process is not going to conform to the method your material expects of you ... so this is just something that would work from my head
So our closest stars would be... 1760 x 10^4 and 1255 x 10^4 ? ( AKA, Star A and Star D?)
work your process A-B A-C A-D B-C B-D C-D
22 and 17 are the closest to each other
