-2n ≥ 8 or n+3<7 please show step by step and explain
Do you have to graph the two to solve for n? Or what further instructions do you have?
just solving for n. no graphing
Good! That makes it easier. Let's start with the first equation. "-2n ≥ -4" Start by trying to isolate n. Do you know how to do that?
i actually already solved them. n ≤ -4 or n < 4. I just don't understand why the back of the book says the answer is only n<4
The first equation has an error. See if you can spot it.
And don't overthink it. You got the more complicated part correct, but missed a...simpler part.
Oh, i typed the equation incorrectly. it's suppose to be -2n≥8 or n+3<7.
Well that changes things. One moment.
sorry
Don't apologize, it was actually my mistake. Now, is this one of the problems that the book gives the answer to so you can solve for it and see if you got it right?
to see if i got it right
That's odd, and I'll explain why. My thought process would be to accept n ≤ 4 as correct, as it already includes all that "n < 4" would contain, plus the addition of the answer also possibly being 4. Now, to check my answer, I'm going to ask some others of their opinion on this.
@amistre64 , @ganeshie8 , or @Luigi0210 , could you shed some light?
-2n ≥ 8 or n+3<7 n < = -4 or n < 4 |dw:1440981200481:dw| n<4 contains n<= -4 so to avoid redundancy ... the solution set is simply all values less then 4
if you were going to pick all the points in the number line that form a solution ... you would define it as all points less then 4 and be done with the explanation.
oh, I see now. thank you so much for helping everyone!
in set notation ... i dont think you know set notation if D is contained within A, then the union of A with D, is just A ... since D is already a part of A to start with.
