Has anyone read Beowulf and would like to check 3 questions for me?
Yes.
Which character is described in these lines? Lord of the Scyldings, this single petition? Not to refuse me, defender of warriors, Friend-lord of folks, so far have I sought thee, That I may unaided, my earlmen assisting me, This brave-mooded war-band, purify Heorot. I chose Beowulf
@ShirouxGhoul
Hrothgar I think.
You there??
Yeah, I'll have to look more into that one.. Which character is described in these lines? "Too loathsome and lasting. Not longer he tarried, But one night after continued his slaughter Shameless and shocking, shrinking but little From malice and murder; they mastered him fully." I chose Grendel.
I think Higelac, but may be Beowulf.
For the second one?
I think so, hold on I'm going to look into that really quick.
I have another question that says In a response of two to three sentences, explain how these lines contribute to Grendel's characterization as a monster. with the same quote under it..
The lines given describe Grendel in a manner that suits more of an animal instead of a human. A prowess would suit a predator, and the moan after he has finished taking his meal suggest that he has eaten a person after hunting it.
My passage does't say anything about the moan or prowess lol.
I was reading my book, I had a question like this too, wasn't it like this?
Kinda except different passages.
"In the dusk of the dawning, as the day was just breaking, Was Grendel's prowess revealed to the warriors: Then, his meal-taking finished, a moan was uplifted, Morning-cry mighty."
Yeah but that's not that passage I have so that's kind of irrelevant to me.
OK, type your passage.
"Too loathsome and lasting. Not longer he tarried, But one night after continued his slaughter Shameless and shocking, shrinking but little From malice and murder; they mastered him fully."
And in this part, Beowulf hasn't came to attack Grendel so it can't be pertaining to Beowulf.
True. This passage is confusing me right now.
Me too lol. Do you have anyone you can tag to see if they know?
OK, it's either Higelac, Grendel, or Hrothgar.
I want to say Grendel because it says malice and muder, and it says he continued his slaughter. That passage is right after he kills the thirty men in the mead-hall.
Here's right before that passage Morning-cry mighty. The man-ruler famous, The long-worthy atheling, sat very woful, Suffered great sorrow, sighed for his liegemen, When they had seen the track of the hateful pursuer, The spirit accursed: too crushing that sorrow, Too loathsome and lasting. Not longer he tarried, But one night after continued his slaughter Shameless and shocking, shrinking but little From malice and murder; they mastered him fully.
Yes, same. I can tag someone.
@sammixboo
Do you have a question about how Beowulf is brave and shows leadership?
Yes but i already did that one. I'm on this question now Using the characteristics you have noted for Grendel and Beowulf, compare and contrast the characteristics of monsters and heroes. Answer in a paragraph of eight to ten sentences, making sure to include evidence from the poem to support your ideas.
He dare to dive into the dark non-seen bottom lake alone to fight with the Grendel's mother when he have the message about Grendel doing bad things, he instantly organizes his men and sails to him he self-sacrifice when he faces the dragon. Though his men are so scared and run away, he still keeps on fighting until dead to kill the dragon.
about brave, he also dares to fight with Gendel with bare hand leadership, he plans his men pretend to be sleeping to attack Gendell surprisingly. he leads his men to chase after Grendel when the monster is wounded. he also takes his men fight with the dragon. This is pertaining the brave question, I know you already done it, but it could be useful to you.
Thank you :)
I don't think anyone is going to write the paragraph but the things you can compare are; good;evil care for people/protect;destroy things/cause devastation characteristics as well, heroic/strong/godlike vs "devil"/slimey ect things they mention in the text Also, this essay might help http://fantasyworks.wordpress.com/2011/11/20/differentiating-monster-and-hero-part-1-beowulf/
I need more things to compare about the two rather than contrast.
Did you check out the essay?
Yeah I think I got it.
It's just the multiple choice questions are getting to me lol
Need anymore help, or you done? IKR I hate multiple choice when I don't totally get something, they make me even more confused!
