Think back on all the innovations you’ve learned about in this lesson. It is time to start thinking like a cultural historian. Imagine that you are preparing a time capsule of items representing scientific achievements from the 20th century. The people who dig up your time capsule many years from now will be unfamiliar with the importance of these innovations. They are living in a world made possible by innovations developed well after you. Your job is to prepare an explanation of 20th century science and innovation for the time capsule.

Step 1: Choose three to five advances in 20th century science that you think are the most important.

Step 2: Select pictures of objects that are symbolic of the advance that you selected. For each picture, include a two to three sentence description that clearly explains who was responsible for the advance and how the advance affected 20th century life.

Step 3: Rank your chosen advances in order from most important to least important. Justify why you placed them in the order that you have chosen in a paragraph of four to five sentences.

Step 4: Organize your work from steps one through three into a digital time capsule. There are many 21st century tools available for creating products in an online environment. Your time capsule must include:
•one slide for each advance that includes at least one image illustrating the advance and a two to three sentence explanation of who was responsible for the advance and how the advance affected 20th century life
•one final slide that includes a one paragraph justification of the order in which you ranked your chosen advances
