OpenStudy (andrewv):

The table below concerns various elongation configurations for a hypothetical superior planet. Complete any missing elongations, terminology, or lettered labelsonthe drawing where the Sun and Earth are shown.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I never learned about this, but this site helps http://astronomy.swin.edu.au/cosmos/E/Elongation

OpenStudy (andrewv):

Yeah ive tried multple attempts of looking online for resources. It simply doesnt make sense to me...I have a blurry picture which i can kind of sort of make out what 2 of the answers are but not the others Perhaps you may be able to decipher the rest?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

An opposition is always 180 degrees to the Sun.

OpenStudy (andrewv):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I saw your attached files.

OpenStudy (andrewv):

from the picture it would appear that "c" elongation is 0°

OpenStudy (andrewv):

B elongation appears to be West 90°

OpenStudy (andrewv):

although i cant be entirely sure..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes C elongation angle would be 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It would be called a conjunction.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So C is done. For B, any quadrature (no matter eastern or western) is 90 degrees.

OpenStudy (andrewv):

Just conjunction?

OpenStudy (andrewv):

not superior conjunction or inferior conjunction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No the picture you have a superior conjunction (attached file has a hypothetical superior planet in it). Dont worry about the picture in the right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I do not have a background with this, so you can write that if your teacher mentions superior conjunction or superior opposition.

OpenStudy (andrewv):

I understand. Its all good. you helped me even a little and i truly appreciate it (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Aw, thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Did you finish filling everything in the box?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now you have to plot it using the letters.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is the harder part.

OpenStudy (andrewv):

Plot it ? Plot what where? I have to plot things on the picture?

OpenStudy (andrewv):

sorry if i sound like a total idiot :/ I didnt expect this lab class to be so difficult and the teacher isnt so great himself...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yea it says complete any letter labels.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Opposition is 180 degrees, so it should be near the earth.

OpenStudy (andrewv):

Well that sucks...I have a second problem where i already filled out the box but i suppose i need to plot on that one as well...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which second problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You know where to plot the opposition right? It is opposite to the conjunction.

OpenStudy (andrewv):

I got it (:

OpenStudy (andrewv):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes! From B to earth to sun creates a 90 degree angle. west. From D to Earth to Sun creates a 120 degree angle east

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nice job!

OpenStudy (andrewv):

Thank you for your help (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem!

OpenStudy (andrewv):

have a great day / night!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You too! It is night for me. 9:54pm.

OpenStudy (andrewv):

it is 1am for me :/

OpenStudy (andrewv):

I wake up in 5 hours haha
