what is a past particle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The past participle, also sometimes called the passive or perfect participle, is identical to the past tense form (ending in -ed) in the case of regular verbs, but takes various forms in the case of irregular verbs, such as sung, written, put, gone, etc.

Participles are words formed from verbs which can be used as adjectives. There are two types of participles: ** The Past Participle (usually ending -ed, -d, -t, -en, or -n) ** The Present Participle (ending -ing) I.e. Verb: To swell Past Participle: swollen eyes. I.e. Verb: To break Past Participle: Broken Plate etc. Past Participles in Participle Phrases: The boy taken to hospital has recovered. (The participle phrase taken to hospital describes the boy.) Past Participles Used as Adjectives: Here is a laminated copy to replace your torn one. Hope this helps!
