OpenStudy (sbuck98):

Can someone help me get the answer and show how they got it?

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

@Nnesha do you know any of this stuff?

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

@paki @Luigi0210 @lynzandriptide @isry98

Nnesha (nnesha):

y=mx+b is slope intercept form where `m` is slope and `b` is y-intercept

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

How'd you get it though?

Nnesha (nnesha):

i didn't get anything it's the original equation for slope intercept form

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

OH sorry! Could you help me solve ABCD for that problem? and explain how you got the answers

Nnesha (nnesha):

y=mx+b is slope intercept parallel lines should have the same slope example if the slope of line `a` is 2 then slope of line `b` would be 2 as wll slope of perpendicular lines are `negative reciprocal` if slope of line a is a/b then slope of `b` would be -b/a

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

okay!

Nnesha (nnesha):

so what's the slope of line J ??

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

Y=-4+2x?

Nnesha (nnesha):

just slope

Nnesha (nnesha):

like i said y=mx+b m is slope which is always with x variable

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

so 2?

Nnesha (nnesha):

yes right

Nnesha (nnesha):

now we need equation of the line that's parallel to y=2x+4 slope of new line would be what ? parallel lines would have the same slope

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

so it's the same?

Nnesha (nnesha):

yes right

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

SO that would be by anwser for A?

Nnesha (nnesha):

yes what about B ?

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

The same because anything that's parallell is the same

Nnesha (nnesha):

yes right!

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

OK:)))

Nnesha (nnesha):

so part C) find the equation m=2 we already know that so y =mx+b use the order pair they gave u for x and y values and replace m with 2 to find b

Nnesha (nnesha):

\[\huge\rm y=2x+b\] passes through (3,7) so replace (x,y) with (3,7) and solve for b

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

7+2*3+b?

Nnesha (nnesha):

if you mean 7 `=` 2(3)+b then yes now solve for b

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

1?

Nnesha (nnesha):

yes right so b=1 now you can replace b with one in the original equation

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

7=2(3)+1

Nnesha (nnesha):

well we need in slope intercept form so keep the x and y variables y=2x+1

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

thank you

Nnesha (nnesha):

last part if the we need line that's perpendicular to line j y=2x+4 like i said perpendicular slopes are negative reciprocal so what would be the slope of line h ?

Nnesha (nnesha):

i've to go will be back

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

y=-4+2x

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

ok how long?

Nnesha (nnesha):

oh well got few mints

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

oh good!

Nnesha (nnesha):

alright here is ane example if slope of the first line is a/b then perpendicular slope would be `-b/a` <--flipped the fraction and changed the sign

Nnesha (nnesha):

so what's the perpendicular slope for line h ?

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

So I had it right?

Nnesha (nnesha):

no

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

-4+2x=y

Nnesha (nnesha):

i said slope would negative reciprocal but the slope of the equation u posted is the same like J=2x+4

Nnesha (nnesha):

remember : parallel lines `same slope ` perpendicular slopes `negative reciprocal`

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

ok

Nnesha (nnesha):

what's the slope of line j ?

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

-4+2x=j

Nnesha (nnesha):

why are u keep posting that equation ? j=2x `+` 4

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

ok

Nnesha (nnesha):

what's the `slope`( not the equation) of line J ?

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

2

Nnesha (nnesha):

yes right so slope of line h would be negative reciprocal of 2

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

you prob think im stupid but are we on C or D?

Nnesha (nnesha):

for which part they are asking `perpendicular ` equation ? :=)

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

D:)

Nnesha (nnesha):

yes so ofc D

Nnesha (nnesha):

here is an example if slope of first equation is a/b then slope of perpendicular equation would be -b/a so if the slope of line J is 2 then slope of line h would be what ?

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

-2

Nnesha (nnesha):

what's the reciprocal of 2 ? it's same as 2/1

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

1/2

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

or 1

Nnesha (nnesha):

no 1/2 is right so it would be -1/2

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

ok

Nnesha (nnesha):

now replace m with -1/2 and substitute (x,y) for given order to find b

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

help

Nnesha (nnesha):

what's the original equation of slope intercept ?

Nnesha (nnesha):

for **

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

j=2x=4

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

+4

Nnesha (nnesha):

you really like that equation y=mx+ b is the original equation replace m with -1/2 and then (x,y) with the given point in part D

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

-1/2+8+10

Nnesha (nnesha):

hmm y=mx+b y value should at left side

Nnesha (nnesha):

just like u did for part C

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

10=-1/2(8)

Nnesha (nnesha):

yes right solve for b 10=-1/2(8)+b

Nnesha (nnesha):

gtg

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

ok

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

b=21/2=10.500

Nnesha (nnesha):

hmm no \[10=-\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }(8)+b\] you can divide 8/2

Nnesha (nnesha):

it shouldn't be decimal
