so how does your course define outliers?
OpenStudy (brandonw998):
In my book it says "Outliers are points that don't fit the pattern of the rest of the data"
OpenStudy (amistre64):
thats the def i was raised with ... these days they have some formula like:
mean +- IQR(1.5) defines the interval that is NOT ourliers

or something like that
OpenStudy (amistre64):
what is q3 - q1?
OpenStudy (brandonw998):
So the outlier is 30.052?
OpenStudy (brandonw998):
Q3-Q1=6
OpenStudy (amistre64):
and 6*1.5 is 9
so by one definition, an outlier is any value that is NOT between q1-9, and q3+9

no numbers are less than 8.1
any on the high side?
OpenStudy (brandonw998):
So 33.2 and 34 are outliers?
OpenStudy (brandonw998):
So the answer is D?
OpenStudy (amistre64):
if we accept the definition using the IQR yes.
so our box plot should have 2 little open dots on the high side
OpenStudy (amistre64):
D would be my best educated guess as well
