Help

zarkam21 (zarkam21):

OpenStudy (firekat97):

okay so starts from 5 so we know that 5 is a constant which is added on... now try writing "four less than twice the previous line" as an expression. Let l be the number of marbles in the previous line

zarkam21 (zarkam21):

12-4

zarkam21 (zarkam21):

is it 6?

OpenStudy (raymonde20):

Yep. I got 6 as well.

zarkam21 (zarkam21):

But thts not a choice :/

OpenStudy (firekat97):

wait how did you guys get 6?

zarkam21 (zarkam21):

I did 2x-4 and but 6 in for x

OpenStudy (firekat97):

But you forgot to add the 5 constant

OpenStudy (firekat97):

because the line initially starts at 5 marbles

zarkam21 (zarkam21):

so 11

zarkam21 (zarkam21):

?

OpenStudy (firekat97):

Im gonna try and find a better way to explain this, my explanation is getting messy

zarkam21 (zarkam21):

Alright thanks

OpenStudy (firekat97):

I think the easiest way to do it is to follow the pattern... because I can't find any AP/GP or linear relationship, though there probably is a bette way to do it but anyway this is what I would use... so line 1: 5 marbles (we are told this) line 2: 2(5) -4 = 6 line 3: 2(6) - 4 : 8 and so on.... till you get to line 6

zarkam21 (zarkam21):

14?

zarkam21 (zarkam21):

I just put 36.

OpenStudy (firekat97):

Yeah I got 36 too

OpenStudy (phi):

the rule is 2*n - 4 where n is the number of marks in the previous line if you count the number of marks in line 4, you get 12 to find the number of marks in line 5, do 2*12 - 4 that simplifies to 20 now find the number of marks in line 6: 2*20 - 4 = 40-4= 36
