x/5-g=a for x

OpenStudy (owlcoffee):

Hi!

OpenStudy (rushwr):

That's wrong @adll23 \[\frac{ x }{ 5-g} = a\] \[x = a (5-g) = 5a- ag\]

OpenStudy (superman499):

Hey @Owlcoffee

OpenStudy (owlcoffee):

Whenever we have a multivariable equation, that is, there is more than one variable constituting the equation and we are asked to solve for one of them, we treat the rest of the variables as if they were just numbers and leave it solved, there by, from the excercise: \[\frac{ x }{ 5 -g}=a\] we want to solve for the variable "x" meaning we want to leave isolated, on the numerator on any side of the "=" sign. So, we will multiply both sides by (\(5-g\) ) to make that happen: \[(5-g)\frac{ x }{ (5-g) }=(a)(5-g)\] \[x=(a)(5-g)\] And by distributive property: \[x=5a-ag\]
