If your question is "what time did Alan arrive" or "how long did he take" then that's an easy one as long as you break down the problem. For now, forget the time he left(8:00) and visualize our problem |dw:1443410150165:dw| So he is moving at 47mph; what does this mean? this means he is moving 47 miles every hour. So to find out the number of hours he takes we need to find out the number of (47 miles) that are there in the whole drive which is 380 miles long. how many 47s are there in 380?; 380 divided by 47 or 380/47= 8.1 hours. Now all we do is add up this time to the time he left and we get the time he reached.
