Heavy rains cause water speed in a river to increase and the river to overflow its banks. A scientist who has studied the river wants to determine the effects of this rain event on the river's ecological community. How could the scientist safely investigate these effects? Responses A.By taking pictures during and after the rain event B.By sampling organisms directly only after the rain event C.By sampling organisms directly during and after the rain event D.By setting out equipment to measure water flow during the rain event

OpenStudy (koikkara):

@ANimeScrub34 I would go with \(D\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no direct answers :PP

OpenStudy (koikkara):

@Smita12 I don't think i gave direct answer, but a hint ofcourse....lol Do you think D is the answer ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

@Koikkara A direct answer, it is :)

OpenStudy (ayeeeitskateee):

@koikkara Without explaining or asking what they think first, is giving a direct answer and is against the Code of Conduct.

OpenStudy (javk):

A. Taking pictures can act as a guide in this study but obviously you can't exactly take measurements from it, it's sort of vague and not at all scientific B. By sampling after only, you have nothing to compare against. All you know is what the sort of organisms were found in the river after the event had occurred - not enough information to gauge the effect the overflow had. C. In this case you have some solid data collected in the form of measurements, from both before and after the event has occurred. Not only can you now compare the data but you have some solid numbers to compare against D. Now while this one will give both, some solid numerical data and a view of before and after, the question explicitly states that the scientists wishes to determine the effect on the rivers ecological community. This means he wishes to compare the effect the water flow had on the living things in the region and not how high or low the water got during the flooding i.e. he wants to k now if perhaps some organisms got washed away or some other organisms that weren't already present in that river locality have been washed down from other regions in the river etc. So no, I would definitely not go by D So which one do you think it is?
