27+15/2=21 nikki. you should know this :)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
What about this one?
Find the value of x:
Select one:
a. 10
b. 12
c. 24
d. 36
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i'm afraid it must be 4.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so none of these are correct?

@marsss
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i think so
OpenStudy (anonymous):
hmmm
OpenStudy (anonymous):
how did you get 4? @marsss
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i think the median is 21. but what you calculated was x, which is kind of redundant

21=4x+5
16=4x
x=4
OpenStudy (anonymous):
the median is 21
OpenStudy (anonymous):
because the median is given by 4x+5. but you didn't need to calculate x to know what the median was.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
get me?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
do you know what x is @chris00

yes
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes x=4, but you don't need to solve for it to 'find the value of the median' which is the problem statement.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
the median is already defined as
\[median=\frac{ GB+ED }{ 2 }\]
OpenStudy (anonymous):
um okay
OpenStudy (anonymous):
perhaps there is a follow on question which makes you solve for x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):
but here, x is clearly not the median. 4x+5 is the median
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so the median is b)21
OpenStudy (anonymous):
get me?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes but i posted another question Find the value of x:
Select one:
a. 10
b. 12
c. 24
d. 36
OpenStudy (anonymous):
is there a different trapezoid for this problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):
no its the same one
OpenStudy (anonymous):
hmm perhaps take a picture of the entire picture. Because, yes x=4
OpenStudy (anonymous):
if it is actually the same question, then perhaps email your teacher about it with a print screen of the question.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
OpenStudy (anonymous):
that is a different question...

its wants to solve for x Find the value of x:
Select one:
a. 10
b. 12
c. 24
d. 36
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i messed up sorry
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i can't see what the words say at the top of the page
OpenStudy (anonymous):
in the question
OpenStudy (anonymous):
12/(12+x)=5/15
they are proportional triangles, because the bases are parallel
can you solve it?

you could have just found the ratio of the first small triangle 12/5. and then multiply that my 10 to get x.
12/5 *10=24
OpenStudy (anonymous):
different ways to get the same answer.
