OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

Help me identify this please?

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

let me post the problem

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

OpenStudy (empty):

Well what functional groups do you recognize?

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

ketone?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think alkene?

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

really? I don't think so

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

why you say alkene?

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

maybe alcohol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Since there is a double bond= is present

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Naming starts from double bond near the side

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

well ketones have double bonds as well

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Interesting

OpenStudy (empty):

The difference between ketones and alkenes is that ketones have oxygen atoms. There's no way around this, you just have to memorize the functional groups. Luckily it's not so bad because of how common they are.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Empty do you know?

OpenStudy (zale101):

Ketones are oxygen double bonded to carbon and that same carbon is bonded to two other carbons

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jim_thompson5910 @gabbyalicorn @nincompoop @satellite73

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@kropot72 @mathstudent55

OpenStudy (zale101):

You have a c double bonded to another c those c are bonded to hydrogen's and that makes it an alkene

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

I'm sorry @Austin1617 im not very good at math.

OpenStudy (empty):

Lol I think the question is answered no reason to tag people

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your name was by accident

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry D:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Idk just adding more people who might know this

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

this aint math lol

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

zale do you know the answer>

OpenStudy (empty):

I tutored organic chemistry for about 3 years and have a chemistry degree but there's not much to say here. You either know the functional group or you don't, it's a specific thing and I can't memorize it for him.

OpenStudy (zale101):

Raffle do you have a chart llisted of different functional groups?

OpenStudy (empty):

Yeah this should be in your book somewhere, read the chapter. This is like organic chemistry... I'm pretty against spoon feeding this subject.

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

yes and no. We just started talking about this... ALso empty I agree with you it's just a matter of memorzing everything but because we just started I don't know. plus this is not o chem

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

it's gen chem 2

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

hold on ladies and gents

OpenStudy (zale101):

Shouldn't this question be posted in the Chen section?

OpenStudy (zale101):

Chem

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

lol I thought this was the chem section

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

doees those help?

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

okay the answer is alkene.

OpenStudy (zale101):

Yes.I reccomend this as well https://castlelearning.com/review/reference/chem%20table%20r.gif

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

what is the name of it?

OpenStudy (zale101):

This is just an ordinary chart of a list of functional groups.

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

I need the name

OpenStudy (zale101):

The name of the chart?

OpenStudy (thomas5267):

Name the base molecule. The base molecule should be the molecule with the longest straight carbon chain.

OpenStudy (thomas5267):

*Straight as in not branched, not straight on the diagram.
