How many electrons does strontium have to give up to achieve a noble –gas electron configuration? Consult the periodic table. 4 1 3 2 @ganshie8

your answer is 2

OpenStudy (jebonna):

Strontium is in group 2 meaning it has 2 electrons in its outer shell. This means to get a noble gas configuration (which is a full outer shell) it would be easier to lose electrons than to try and gain 6 more. Therefore it will lose the two electrons on its outer shell and then its next shell will be full, giving it an electron configuration of the noble gas krypton.
