The table shows the outputs y for different inputs x: Input (x) 3 7 11 15 Output (y) 4 6 8 10 Part A: Do the data in this table represent a function? Justify your answer. (3 points) Part B: Compare the data in the table with the relation f(x) = 5x – 21. Which relation has a greater value when x = 11? (2 points) Part C: Using the relation in Part B, what is the value of x if f(x) = 99? (5 points)

Do you know the 'vertical line test' for if something is a function or not? On a graph, this means that every vertical line only passes through one point (and not more than one). In a table, this translates to "for every x value, there is only one y value". Do you know why this makes sense? You can apply this test to your data table. For Part B, The question wants you to compare the y value that matches x = 11 in the table to the f(x) where n = 11, and to find which one is a greater value. Part C wants you to use the function from part B, but use n = 99 instead of 11. Does this make sense? We can work through each part on its own, but here are some guiding questions ^^.

ok

OpenStudy (safyousuff97):

i want to do the question with u

OpenStudy (cathyangs):

Okay. For Part A, how did you apply the table version of the 'vertical line test'? What was the result of the test?

OpenStudy (safyousuff97):

what test ?

OpenStudy (cathyangs):

Can you read what my first comment was for your question? I explained what the test for a function is, and gave you guiding questions and comments for each part of this problem.

OpenStudy (safyousuff97):

ok

OpenStudy (safyousuff97):

ok nvm just leave it, thnx fro responding, gotta go

OpenStudy (cathyangs):

Okay. Hopefully this helps!
