So I started off by thinking that I would have to do 220t+250t=1880 but then I get 470t=1880, and then it is t=4 and that is obviously incorrect.
s/(v1+v2)=1880/(220+250)=4
everything is correct
Haha @mathmale I was just doing that. Sorry for not being clear.
plus sign is because trains are traveling in opposite direction.
Yes, and sorry for messaging you when you were already about to share your work.
now multiply the speed of lian's train by time
s=v*t=250*4=?
np @mathmale Okay, so that is 1000, what next?
...that's the answer isn't it. Yup. Okay so why did I multiply the speed of Lian's train by time, how would I have known to do that? @AlexandervonHumboldt2
Train's speed is a rate (miles/hour) and duration of travel is represented by t (time in hrs). Note that multiplying these together results in distance (miles). \ d = r t (distance equals rate times time).
@everybody try to resend the attachment
Train's speed is a rate (miles/hour) and duration of travel is represented by t (time in hrs). Note that multiplying these together results in distance (miles). \ d = r t (distance equals rate times time) i got it now
@mathmale Thanks I had forgotten that part. @stargirl101303 The question has already been solved with some help, and I am no longer in need of assistance, thank you though for finding this question and looking at it.
Great.
