OpenStudy (blackbird02):

p is directly proportional to the sqaure of q. If p=5 when q=1/2 find q if p=15

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

As \(p\) is directly proportional to the square of \(q\), we can write \[p = kq^2\]where \(k\) is our proportionality constant. We know a pair of values for \(p\) and \(q\), so we plug them into the equation to solve for the value of \(k\), then plug \(p=15\) into the completed equation with our newly-found value of \(k\) and solve for \(q\).

OpenStudy (mathmale):

If p=5 when q=1/2, substitude these values into Mr. Palmer's equation. Determine the value of the constant of proportionality, k. Write this equation again, this time with the numerical value of k. Lastly, let p=15 and find q. Voila!
