Hi I am new and need help with a pre-algebra question. The question is find the ordered pairs of y=4x-11 when 10 is the output. There are no answers to this equation.
hey @the_ocean_girl
Okay so the output would be y, so substitute 10 in for y 10= 4x-11 Do you know how to solve this equation?
that what i need help with
srry meant that is what i need help with
Okay so let's begin. In order to solve this, you need to do reverse order of operations
ok so wouldn't it be like you said 10=4x-11
Yep, now we have to solve for x, and once we do that, we'll have our ordered pair
ok so can you help me on that? I know i am sounding really stupid right now
Math is not my best subject right now
It's fine! We all have our struggles in math! Okay so our goal is to get x alone, in order to do this, we need to first get rid of the 11. Do you add it or subtract it to get rid of 11?
subtract
if i am right
@the_ocean_girl
Since 11 is negative, you would need to cancel it out by adding 11
ohh ok
so -11+10?
then when I add that then that would be -1 or if i do -11+4 then that answer would be -7.
is that right @the_ocean_girl ?
Sorry I was doing geometry. After adding 11, you would get 21= 4x. From there, you need to divide both sides by 4 to get your x value
ohh i added -11
21/4 is 5.25 or rounding it would be 5.3. Right?
@the_ocean_girl
No need to keep mentioning me! When you comment it'll notify me. But yes! You're right! As an ordered pair, it would be (5.3,10)
oh ok so srry. I am totally new to this, I thought that is what I had to do.
So if 5.3,10 is the first ordered pair what would the other pairs be?
how many other ordered pairs is it expecting you to give?
srry I was in a dba with a teacher. I solved the problem and got a 100% on the dba. Thank you so much ma'am.
