hard to explain but um...

5x=18+2x you want to get x alone on 1 side. So you have to subtract -2x from each side, that will leave u with :
3x/ 3 and 18/3 (3x over 3 and 18 over 3) 3x/3 will cancel out into x. So now you have x and 18/3. 18 divided by 3 is 6. So you are left with x on one side and 6 on the other. x=6
BTW: this is the explanation to the first question cause you weren't sure.
