1.)Simplify 9/16−1/4 2.)Find the Least Common Denominator (LCD) of 9/16,1/4 Method 1: By Listing Multiples List out all multiples of each denominator, and find the first common one. 16 : 16 4 : 4,8,12,16 Therefore, the LCD is 16 Method 2: By Prime Factors List all prime factors of each denominator, and find the union of these primes. 16 : 2,2,2,2 4 : 2,2 Therefore, the LCD is 2×2×2×2=16 Make the denominators the same as the LCD 9/16−1×4/4×4 Simplify. Denominators are now the same 9/16−4 16 Join the denominators 9−4/16 Simplify 5/16 so 5/16 would be your answer. do you see how I did it?

OpenStudy (whovianchick):

When subtracting or adding fractions, you need to make the denominators (the numbers on bottom) the same. To do that, you can multiply one or both of the fractions by a form of one , which can be 4/4, 5/5, or any number over itself. I multiplied 1/4 by 4/4 because 4*4 is 16, and you needed 16 to be your denominator. Get it?

OpenStudy (hellomynameiskam):

yes.

Also please give a medal to someone. (Not saying me, just saying it's common courtesy to give out a medal to the best answer)
