Write the equation of the line that has an x-intercept of -3 and passes through the point (-3, 7).

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

What does "x-intercept" mean in terms of the value of \(x\) and \(y\)?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

are you sure you don't mean y-intercept of -3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No it says x-intercept

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

(just want to be sure we work on the right problem!) okay, x-intercept it is. What does "x-intercept" mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's where a line goes through the X line

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

okay, so what is the value of y there? the value of x must be the value of the x-intercept

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont know...

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Can you write an equation that gives you a line right on top of the x-axis?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Isn't the x-axis simply the line \(y = 0\)? Just like the y-axis is the line \(x=0\)?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

That means that at the x-intercept point, the y value is 0, so our second point is \((\text{x-intercept}, 0)\), right?
