Please read the following sentence to answer the question. Sonya, my Mother, owns a bakery, and she makes the best brownies in town. Is the word mother capitalized correctly in the sentence? A. No, because it is a parenthetical element. B. No, because a possessive pronoun comes before the word. C. Yes, since Sonya is the owner of the bakery. D. Yes, since Sonya must be capitalized, so should mother.
i think its A but im not sure
It's B
C or D seems pretty silly honestly. And B makes no sense. A is correct :)
Mother is capitalized only when the current speaker is addressing his or her mother directly. For example, "Mother, have you seen Father?". However, if the current speaker is addressing her indirectly then the word 'mother' is not capitalized. For example, "My mother is the kindest person I know."
ok thank you. so A would be the correct answer?
I think so, because a possessive pronoun is known as truly indicating possession and is seen by words such as "mine, yours, hers, theirs." and A understates the fact that capitalizing mother in this sense would be the correct way to go.
Just because something is used as a parenthetical element in a sentence doesn't give it ground to be capitalized.
Then how does a possessive pronoun even make sense for this?
OK thank you. Can you guys help me in a few more questions?
I would love to. I'll do my best
What's your other question?
