Add. –3.62 + 6.17

OpenStudy (anonymous):

...so i wouldn't be adding.? @MD152727

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@MD152727 No direct answers dude

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would like add add not subtract to get the positive

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you have paper and a utensil, maybe a calculator, a rock and a cavewall? Anything?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Actually, you are adding a positive number and a negative number together. The net result is, of course, a difference, not a sum.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

If I were writing the question, I'd use the word "combine" instead of "add."

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok...So the answer would be 2.49 am i correct or should i do it the other way around

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What I think mathmale is trying to say is that you could switch this around to 6.17-3.62 and achieve the same answer. Do you want to try it this way?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 2.55 doing it that way

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There you have it, good job! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well -2.55....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, but because you had switched the addition to subtraction, you would need to switch the negative to a positive, so 2.55 is correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok thanks @OrangeMaster

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem.
