if the length of a diagonal of a square is 18, what is the diameter of the circle inscribed in the square?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OMG WHY DID I EVEN ASK THAT

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Notice something interesting, the diameter is actually the same length as the `side length` of the square!

zepdrix (zepdrix):

oh you figure it out? XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YES! You are amazing. Thank you so much. May you help me with another problem? It's simple too.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

sure

zepdrix (zepdrix):

What did you get for the square problem? It was something like 9sqrt(2) right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh, I'm supposed to put it into radical form? I thought the answer was simply "18". IDK

zepdrix (zepdrix):

No, that's not the diameter, see how it extends outside of the circle :o

zepdrix (zepdrix):

|dw:1450048669738:dw|This middle line could be our diameter. And notice that it's the same length as the side of the square.
