Sorry to say, but I was not a cotton farmer in the mid-1800's :(

This is mainly based off knowledge of the Civil War. The South's main export of the time was cotton and when the Mississippi river was put under Union control it cut off exports and imports. The cotton boom of the UK was going around that time. When the former Empire decided to go neutral Jefferson Davis decided to place an embargo on the crop to force the UK into recognizing the Confederacy
