rebeccaxhawaii (rebeccaxhawaii):

Three party-goers are in the corner of the ballroom having an intense argument. You walk over to settle the debate. They are discussing a function g(x). You take out your notepad and jot down their statements. Ms. Guerra: She says that 2 is a zero of g(x) because g(2) = 0.

rebeccaxhawaii (rebeccaxhawaii):

@Brill

OpenStudy (smartyprincess):

Professor McCoy: 2 is a zero of g(x) only if g(x) is divisible by (x - 2), not (x + 2). She is wrong. Ms Guerra: g(2) = 0, so clearly 2 is a zero of g(x). She is right. Mr Romano: Let g(x) = 2x + 8. g(x) divided by 2 will give you x + 4, which has remainder 0. However, zero in this case is clearly not 2. His logic does not hold as a result.

:)

rebeccaxhawaii (rebeccaxhawaii):

Mr. Romano: He says that 2 is a zero of g(x) because synthetic division with 2 results in a remainder of 0.

rebeccaxhawaii (rebeccaxhawaii):

but it would be -2 right ?
