OpenStudy (shadowcain):

Evaluate -3+y/5 when y = –2.5. I'm coming up with -1.1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK so that answer is incorrect. Try using order of operations.

OpenStudy (apricot):

Like what Brill said, do order of operations. Divide -2.5 by 5 first, then add it by -3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is -3-(1/2) ?

OpenStudy (shadowcain):

-3 + -2.5 = -5.5 -5.5 / 5 = -1.1

OpenStudy (apricot):

first, what's 2.5 divided by 5?

OpenStudy (apricot):

-2.5* sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No it's -2.5/5 THEN subtract it from 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because of PEMDAS

OpenStudy (apricot):

^ yes

OpenStudy (shadowcain):

-3 + -2.5 ----------- 5

OpenStudy (shadowcain):

I thought if it was a fraction you work the numerator then divide by the denominator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohhhh If it's like that then you are absolutely right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought it said -3+-2.5/5

OpenStudy (shadowcain):

So, I was right -1.1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (shadowcain):

thanks
