1/6+7/12=?

OpenStudy (benlindquist):

add them

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

You need to find GCF to make the denominators the same

OpenStudy (benlindquist):

oh really

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

@benlindquist it's not that simple

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/6=2/12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now add

OpenStudy (benlindquist):

so the gcf and the add the top and then reduce

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

?

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

You need to find the GCF and then use it to convert 1/6 so that it has a denominator of 12.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it 8/12

OpenStudy (benlindquist):

reduce

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

No it is not

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

Find the GCF of 6 and 12. Do you know how to do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

LCM* I meant LCM not gcf

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

Actually a simpler way to do it would be to just divide the denominators.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

least common denominator

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

What do you get when you divide 12 by 6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

Now multiply that into both numbers in 1/6

OpenStudy (crystal_bliss):

Find the Least Common Denominator (LCD) of 1/6,7/12 Method 1: By Listing Multiples List out all multiples of each denominator, and find the first common one. 6 : 6,12 12 : 12 Therefore, the LCD is 12 Method 2: By Prime Factors List all prime factors of each denominator, and find the union of these primes. 6 : 2,3 12 : 2,2,3 Therefore, the LCD is 2×2×3=12 Make the denominators the same as the LCD 1×2/6×2 +7/12 Simplify. Denominators are now the same 2/12+7/12 Join the denominators 2+7/12 Simplify 9/12=?

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

\[\frac{ 1 \times 2 }{ 6 \times 2 } = \frac{ ? }{ ? }\]

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

Or you could just interrupt me and do everything for em that works too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2/12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hello

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what is the ansswer

OpenStudy (crystal_bliss):

nope thats wrong it would be 3/4 because if you simplify 9/12 and 3 fits in to 9 3 times and for 12 3 goes into 12 4 time so your answer would be 3/4. do you see how i did that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i dont want it in the simpeliest form

OpenStudy (crystal_bliss):

ok the answer is 3/4 but if you do not need it in simplest form than your answer would be 9/12.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you very much crystal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and what grade are you in ?

OpenStudy (crystal_bliss):

hbu?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh im in 5th

OpenStudy (crystal_bliss):

nice so your still learning =}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (crystal_bliss):

and it is also nice to medal and press the blue button that says best respnose>>>>>

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you

OpenStudy (crystal_bliss):

np u can tag me anytime

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey and do u have facebook ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hello crystal bliss
