Perform the indicated operation and write as a mixed number in simplified form. 4/2/3-2/1/2=
First we have to make the Denominators the same.
We have to find the LCF (Lowest common Factor).
the only way in which you can find the correct answer to this is to follow "order of operations" rules. You must do mult. and/or div. before + or - here. To combine these mixed numbers, you must first convert them to improper fractions which have the same denominators, as jabez177 has explained.
Basically, what is a common multiple that you can multiply by to get the same denominators.
6 can be a good one. 3 x what equals 6 and 2 x what equals 6? And whatever you do to the bottom, you have to do to the top.
I've noticed that you have one too many division symbols ( / ) in each mixed number. Please go back, check the original problem statement, and then type this problem in again here.
I think you mean by 4/2/3 the following: 4 2/3 (four and two-thirds).
^ That's what confused me... That's why I stopped because I thought this was a college question... Ha-ha!
@tyrisha: I see y ou're working on a different problem right now. If you're interested, come back here and continue with this problem.
May I just explain it all the way down to the answer? So he/she will be able to come back to this for future reference?
Suggest one step at a time and let @tyrisha do the actual work. Thanks for asking./
