I am having trouble finding out the following question. I just want to know how to solve the problem, so I can find the answer. Winnipeg, Manitoba and Wichita, KS lie on the same longitudinal line. Wichita is at 38° latitude and Winnipeg is at 50° latitude. If the earth is a sphere of radius 4000 miles, use arc length to find the distance between the cities. [Use π = 3.14, and round to the nearest mile.]

OpenStudy (baru):

the marked angle is 50-38= 12 degree

OpenStudy (baru):

*sorry, i have interchanged wichita and winipeg, winipeg should be higher and wichita lower

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, that is how it shows on my assignment.

OpenStudy (baru):

now use the formula \(s=r\theta\) where s=arc length r=radius \(\theta\)=angle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

37.68? I multiplied 3.14 to 12

OpenStudy (baru):

no, you have to multiply radius and angle. (after converting angle from degree to radians)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok. let me check...
