Help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

He's typing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay..

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

Which step should be completed first to solve the equation \[9-3q=14\]? A. Add 14 to both sides. B. Divide both sides by 3. C. Divide both sides by −3. D. Subtract 9 from both sides. & ima a girl. xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which one do you think it is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@kweenlexis

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

A idk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope, think again, you want to get the 3q by itself.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Remember, PEMDAS (or BIDMAS if you're british), the order of operations

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, we need to subtract 9 from both sides correct? @kweenlexis

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

yeah ig

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Therefore, which answer is it? Because like @MysticalFlames said PEMDAS

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@kweenlexis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

PEMDAS, is paranthesis, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction Parenthesis is first and then so on

OpenStudy (aihberkhan):

Okay so we are trying to solve for q. We want to get \[3q\] alone and by itself! @kweenlexis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, now you tell us what you think it is? @kweenlexis

OpenStudy (aihberkhan):

With \[3q\] is 9 and we don't want 9 on that side! This is because we want \[3q\] alone! 9 is a positive number so we want to move it to the other side.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, we want to get 3q by itself, so to do that, we need to do what?

OpenStudy (aihberkhan):

What is the opposite of addition? @kweenlexis

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

Subtraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct, so that means we must subtract what from what?

OpenStudy (aihberkhan):

Do you see how I got that? @kweenlexis

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

No not really @AihberKhan

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So yes @kweenlexis the answer is D, because you must get the 3q by itself. Therefore, we must subtract the 9 from 14

OpenStudy (aihberkhan):

Okay well let me explain. 9 is positive. The opposite is subtraction. If we want it to cancel out we would subtract so that we will get 0! But we have to subtract it from BOTH sides.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then that leaves us with the -3q on one side and 5 on the other.

OpenStudy (aihberkhan):

So when we do that we would get: \[3q = 14 - 9 \]

OpenStudy (aihberkhan):

Hope that helped! Have a great day! :)

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

You subtracting 9 from 14 right?. \[14-9=5\] so like how u got 3q from 5??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then -3q = 5 @kweenlexis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but you don't need to figure that out, because that isn't part of your problem. @kweenlexis

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

ok thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep, no probelmo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@kweenlexis So you got the answer right?
