An oak tree that is 220 years old produced acorns at two different rates. Until it reached maturity, it produced an average of 900 acorns a year. However, once the tree reached maturity, it produced an average of 2200 acorns a year. One particular tree, Angel Oak, has produced about 289,000 acorns in its lifetime. At what age did it reach maturity?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

M = Age at Maturity There. Simply writing the definition makes you about half done. Now what?

OpenStudy (dannyo19):

If you know one rate is 900 times years below a certain variable that when you reach you add a different rate, can you take a derivative?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

What? No calculus. 900M + 2200(220-M) = 289000 Simplify your life 9M + 22(220-M) = 2890

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

Need help @tkhunny

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would the answer be 188 years?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

You can keep guessing or you can show your work. How did you get that?
