Describe how the Triassic period was a transitional time period during the Mesozoic era. Explain why the boundary between the Triassic and Jurassic periods is similar to the boundary between the Permian and Triassic periods.
How much detail is required for your answer? The Triassic was the opening stage of the Mesozoic, it was a time species recovery after the mass extinctions of the Permian. The 'super continent' Pangea was around during the Triassic. The Triassic was also the period in which the Dinosaurs began their slow ascent to dominate the planet. They were able to achieve this due to evolutionary advantages to out-compete other species. The boundary of the Triassic and Jurassic is similar to the Permian/Triassic boundary as there was again a period of extinction and the Jurassic was the beginning of the Dinosaur age as we would come to know it. The continents drifted apart during this time and the global climate changed significantly as well. It really depends on the context of your question about how much depth to go into. As the different elements of the Permian, Triassic and Jurassic are quite numerous. I hope this has helped. Cheers, Bakes
