OpenStudy (bphillips99):

Which pair or pairs of polygons are congruent? 3 and 4 1 and 3 1, 3 and 4 2, 3 and 4 1, 2, 3 and 4

OpenStudy (bphillips99):

OpenStudy (mathmale):

First, what does "congruent" mean in this context? How do you recognize a situation where two figures are congruent?

OpenStudy (bphillips99):

Same size and shape. I think all of them are congruent but I'm not positive

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, i think your right.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Which pair are you unsure of?

OpenStudy (bphillips99):

1 & 4..

OpenStudy (mathmale):

In Pair 1, is there any way you could make the problem easier for yourself by changing the position of one of the figures? The same question, applied to pAIR 4?

OpenStudy (bphillips99):

I have no clue.. Im so confused.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Looking at Pair 1: If you leave one of the figures where it is and rotate the other, eventually the 2nd will fit perfectly over the first. That's congruence.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Confused about the meaning of "congruence" or confused about how to check for "congruence" ?

OpenStudy (decarr432):

I believe it is pairs one and three Because Two and four are just the smallest bit off

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Explain further. How are 2 and 4 "just the smallest bit off?"

OpenStudy (decarr432):

If you look at figure four

OpenStudy (decarr432):

The figure that is red is about a tenth if i have to guess into the next square

OpenStudy (decarr432):

and same for two

OpenStudy (mathmale):

EXCELLENT! I missed that completely.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Thank you.

OpenStudy (decarr432):

Always helps to have a second pair of eyes :D!

OpenStudy (bphillips99):

Thank u guys :) i have to have so many of these done by 4pm tomorrow and I'm TERRIBLE at geometry

OpenStudy (decarr432):
