Identify the verbal in the sentence below. Then select the type of verbal. (I have a few of these) Thinking himself to be a regular Adonis, Jonathan soon found his pride to be his Achilles heel. Verbal: himself, thinking, found) Type of verbal: (participle, infinitive, gerund)

OpenStudy (natasha18):

'Thinking himself to be a regular Adonis' is the verbal phrase. 'Thinking' is the verbal. It is a gerund. Hope I helped :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Natasha18 Thank you so much. 1. Encouraged by the ovation, the conductor led the orchestra in an encore performance. Verbal: (encouraged, encore, ovation) Type of verbal: (participle, infinitive, gerund) 2. The puppy, Charlie, wanted to play with everyone around him. Verbal: (to play, wanted, around) Type of verbal: (participle, infinitive, gerund)

OpenStudy (natasha18):

'Encouraged by the ovation', 'encouraged', participle. 'To play with everyone around him', 'to play', infinitive.

OpenStudy (natasha18):

Here's a helper with verbals. Verbals ending in -ing are gerunds. When you have a verbal that has the word 'to' and then a verb, like 'to play', those are infinitives.
