Two trillion is how much more than seven hundred fifty billion? Write the answer in scientific notation.

OpenStudy (boldjon):

k for the first one. two trillion looks like so... 2,000,000,000,000 or in scientific notation, 2 X 10^12 (because thats how many places you move the zero to the left.) seven hundred and fifty billion looks like this: 750,000,000,000 and in scientific notation 7.5 X 10^10. 2,000,000,000,000 - 750,000,000,000 = 125,000,000,000 in scientific notation it would be 1.25 X 10^11

hope u understood tell me if u need more detail

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Two trillion = 2 x 10^12 750 billion = 7.5 x 10^11 When adding or subtracting exponential quantities, the exponents must be the same so we have: 2.000 x 10^12 minus .750 x 10^12 equals 1.25 x 10^12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First do the subtraction, then write in SN.

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

But make sure the exponents are the same BEFORE you do the subtraction.
