OpenStudy (bieber896):

What would happen to the possible variation in gametes if the number of chromosome pairs increased from two to three? What if the number increased again from three to four?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The variation of gametes would increase from 64 possible variations to 144 variations to 256 variations.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The gamete has 8 chromosomes if there are two pairs of homologous chromosomes, meaning there are 64 possible versions. If there are three pairs, that means that there would be 12 chromosomes (because each pair has 4 chromosomes) and the math would change from 8 * 8 to 12 * 12. You get 256 variations the same way (16 * 16).
