@somy

OpenStudy (rose4825):

OpenStudy (somy):

Hm i dont think that info is sufficient to actually tell the relation between the tree terms try defining each term to me

OpenStudy (somy):

you have some minor errors there also, but lets first see how u would define each

OpenStudy (rose4825):

Gene - a segment of DNA that directs the development of some inherited traits Alleles - a specific form of gene Chromosomes - a single long molecule of DNA wound around proteins called "histones"

OpenStudy (somy):

Allele is more like different versions of the same gene

OpenStudy (somy):

so far good now try to put all this into a good diffuse text

OpenStudy (rose4825):

Genes are segments of DNA that direct the development of some inherited traits. They are sections of chromosomes that have different forms of alleles. Alleles are different versions of a specific form of gene. The alleles an offspring inherits from its parents determine its traits. An organism's DNA is organized into distinct pieces called chromosomes. Chromosomes are a single long molecule of DNA wound around proteins called "histones".

OpenStudy (rose4825):

Does this look good?

OpenStudy (somy):

It doesnt seem bad, but its messed up a little, i think its better to start from chromosome then end with allele Chromosome = DNA + Histones DNA = a molecule that has coding sections called genes = heredity information that can be passed down to offsprings = determines characteristics of of offspring. One characteristic can have different versions of genes = Alleles and they tend to be found in a specific portion of a specific chromosome

OpenStudy (somy):

so its just your wording, information is correct

OpenStudy (somy):

They are sections of chromosomes that have different forms of alleles. = not a clear way to put it An organism's DNA is organized into distinct pieces called chromosomes. = unnecessary. Your last sentence is good enough

OpenStudy (somy):

mind you, DNA has also non coding sections, we dont call them genes, you might or might have not learnt about it so im clarifying this point just in case

OpenStudy (rushwr):

Gene is a section of DNA that controls a certain trait. Ex: Eye color, blood type, skin color Allele is a specific variation of a gene. Ex: Blue eyes, green eyes, type A blood, black skin, white skin

OpenStudy (somy):

" Gene is a section of DNA that controls a certain trait. " Control is not a correct word in this context, gene Codes for certain traits, controlling is done by switches of the gene. @Rushwr

OpenStudy (rushwr):

So the switches are the switches of the gene isn't it ? So doesn't that mean that gene does it ?
