Has anyone here read "The gift of magi" "Charles" and "The Necklace" ?? I have a few questions about them! PLease help I will medal!

OpenStudy (simplymelsie_x):

I've read The Gift of the Magi and The Necklace. :)

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Can you help me with two questions? 1. Describe what is ironic about “Charles” and “The Gift of the Magi”. Explain how each author uses irony and the effect that each story has on readers. Be sure to use details about the characters and their actions to support your answer. 2. How does Mathilde’s situation change her over the course of “The Necklace”? Describe her at the start of the story and at the end of the story. Why is what happens to her ironic? Include details from the story to support your answer.

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Can you help me @simplymarie_x

OpenStudy (simplymarie_x):

1. I haven't read Charles but The Gift of the Magi is ironic because the couple both give something up in order to get a gift for each other which is useless in the end because they had sold what made their gifts useful. 2. Mathilde's situation changes over the course of the Necklace by being selfish and wanting (before the necklace) then being desperate because she got the necklace but then lost it. And then in the end she's miserable as she becomes very poor. It's ironic because she wanted to go to the party thinking she'd make herself happy but instead it made her even more unhappy as she was poor.

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Thank you for helping, Can you proof read my statement on the first question? I already got it written

OpenStudy (simplymarie_x):

Sure :)

MsBrains (ms-brains):

OpenStudy (simplymarie_x):

For the first sentence, you could say "Although "Charles" and "The Gift of the Magi" are very different in plot, both have the same outcome." It makes it more specific so readers know what you're talking about, say they didn't have the question. Then for the following sentence you could say "the poorly-behaved boy about whom her speaks of, is in fact, her own child." The rest is good. :)

OpenStudy (simplymarie_x):

Make sure on the second paragraph, you fix some capitalization and spacing errors, unless that's just the digital copy and it'll be handwritten.

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Thank you! Okay, can you read the second part too?

OpenStudy (simplymarie_x):

I can, hold on! :)

MsBrains (ms-brains):

#2

OpenStudy (simplymarie_x):

"In "The Gift of the Magi" by O'Henry, the ending has the same concept. Although I feel the readers were expecting something ironic to happen, they were definitely not expecting that." In the next sentence, make sure not to capitalize irony. so "The irony in the story was that she cut her hair..(continue what you wrote here)" And make sure you say in the next sentence that "the wife was willing to sacrifice something that is worth so much to her, to get him something nice" (I just fixed some spelling errors/format errors in that sentence)

OpenStudy (simplymarie_x):

And okay, let me review that one :)

OpenStudy (simplymarie_x):

Yes, everything you wrote was perfect! I believe that you should be using "affects" not "effects".

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Awesome! Thank you! (Btw: Sorry for the spelling, and grammar issues. I'm dyslexic, and my eyes skip some words sometimes.)

OpenStudy (simplymarie_x):

You're welcome, and aw, no worries! :)

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Do you mind helping with a few questions more? about the stories?

OpenStudy (simplymarie_x):

Of course, what are they? :)

MsBrains (ms-brains):

1.

OpenStudy (simplymarie_x):

Incredulous!

OpenStudy (simplymarie_x):

So it'd be credulous as your answer :)

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Awesome! Thanks @simplymarie_x I have like 23 of these kinds of questions, Do you mind?

OpenStudy (simplymarie_x):

I don't mind at all. I'll do my best to help you out. :D

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Awesome! I will make a new post so you can get medals for each question :)

OpenStudy (simplymarie_x):

Okie dokie! :)
