What is the equation in point−slope form of the line passing through (−2, −5) and (2, 3)?
Find the equation of the line which passes through the points (5, –3), (9, –3) in the point–slope form. A line passes through (3, 2) and its slope . Write an equation for the line in the form Ax + By = C. A line passes through (–3, –7) and its slope .
when you are given any 2 points say \(\large (x_1,y_1)\) and \((x_2,y_2)\) then the equation of line passing through them is given liek this- \(\Large \frac{y-y_1}{y_2-y_1}=\frac{x-x_1}{x_2-x_1}\) 1st find the equation of line using this
so -5 - 3 and -2- 2?
@imqwerty ?
i didn't get you?
I don't understand
@imqwerty Thanks for nothing
okay we will go step by step be nice :)
the 2 points given to us are-> \(\large (-2,-5)\) and \(\large (2,3)\) now we have to use this -> \(\Large \frac{y-y_1}{y_2-y_1}=\frac{x-x_1}{x_2-x_1}\) to get the equation of the line u gotta figure out \(x_1,x_2,y_1~and~y_2\) to get the equation of your line can you find these?:)
y-(-5) x-(-2) ----- = ------ is what i got 8 4
yes correct :) now try to simplify it
...
How do you simplify
okay well our main objective is to find the point slope form of the given line and the point slope form is given like this-> \(\Large y=mx+c\) where \(m\) is the slope and \(c\) is the y intercept of the line well now we have the equation of our line and to convert it into the point slope form we just need to isolate \(y\) :) so just isolate \(y\)
I have no idea. They're both in fraction form. How am i supposed to simplify that.
kokay we have this-> \(\Large \frac{y-(-5)}{8}=\frac{x-(-2)}{4}\) 1st we open the brackets \(\Large \frac{y+5}{8}=\frac{x+2}{4}\) now 1st we remove that \(8\) from the denominator try multiplying both sides by 8 tell me what u get :)
y-(-5)= 8x-(-16) -------- 32
no thats wrong we had this-\(\Large \frac{y+5}{8}=\frac{x+2}{4}\) after multiplying by 8 on both sides we get this-> \(\Large \frac{y+5}{8} \times 8=\frac{x+2}{4} \times 8\) \(\Large y+5=(x+2) \times 2\) so we will get this^ now try to isolate \(y\)
y= -5 (x+2)^2
no thats bit wrong it will be this-> \(y=-5+(x+2) \times 2\) which can be simplified as follows- \(y=-5+2x+4\) \(y=2x-1\) and this is the required point slope form :)
Thats the answer?
(y + 2) = −2(x + 5) (y − 2) = 2(x − 3) (y − 3) = 2(x − 2) (y + 3) = −2(x + 2) These are my choices/
oh damn i did it in point intercept form anyways just simplify the options and isolate y and the one which gives \(y=2x-1\) is the solution
So which of the choices is that?
