OpenStudy (shelby1290):

What is a periodic function? What is a sinusoidal function?

OpenStudy (sloppycanada):

In mathematics, a periodic function is a function that repeats its values in regular intervals or periods.

OpenStudy (sloppycanada):

A sinusoidal function is a function that is like a sine function in the sense that the function can be produced by shifting, stretching or compressing the sine function.

OpenStudy (caozeyuan):

periodic means having some sort of pattern e,g|dw:1452747107790:dw|

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

@sloppycanada , @caozeyuan Ah I see, well, thank you!!

OpenStudy (mathmale):

The name "sinusoidal function" would most likely include the sine, the cosine and the tangent function. Descriptors that come up immediately when I see "sinusoid" are" periodic (the graph, and thus the function value, repeats itself. The period of the sine or cosine is 2Pi. The graph of the sine shows that its max. value is +1 and its min. value is -1. Both the sine and the cosine have continuous curves (i. e., no breaks). There's more, of course, but this info should be enuf to get you started.
