t/6 = 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hey there!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We're dividing t by 6. And to isolate t we need to do the opposite!!

pooja195 (pooja195):

Multiply by the reciprocal t/6=6/t t/6 * 6/t=t 12 *6=?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What's the opposite of division? @lilnitemare305

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is happening with the t? is it being divided? what is the opposite of division? Do that to both sides

pooja195 (pooja195):

and they go offline...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@pooja195 You made a mistake.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When you multiply by the reciprocal you're going to get 1. So t/6 * 6/t = 1, not t

pooja195 (pooja195):

t=1

pooja195 (pooja195):

It means the same thing it cancels out you are left with t

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You have to multiply both sides by the reciprocal t/6 * 6/t = 12 * 6/t and if you state t = 1, that won't even work out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 isnt a choice

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What's the opposite of division? @lilacluvss

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mulplication

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So we need to multiply 6 on both sides so that way we can isolate 'x'!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, multiply 6 on both sides 6 * t/6 = 12 * 6 t = ??

pooja195 (pooja195):

\(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @MeganXOXO So, multiply 6 on both sides 6 * t/6 = 12 * 6 t = ?? \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\) You did the same thing i did.

pooja195 (pooja195):

It's called multiplying by the reciprocal.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@pooja195 You multiplied by the reciprocal of t/6, not the reciprocal of 1/6. There is a difference and it will lead to more work.

pooja195 (pooja195):

LOL but you still get to the right answer.

pooja195 (pooja195):

I explained it through I showed and explained the steps.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your work was confusing: Multiply by the reciprocal t/6=6/t t/6 * 6/t=t 12 *6=? ------------------------- You just basically made them do the last multiplication. You didn't guide them. :/
