Dimensional Analysis: The average density of whole milk is 1.034 grams per milliliter. What is the density of whole milk in pounds per gallon? Need help with setting up this unit conversion, I'm so confused.
Hi KateyMae7, I'm not sure if I am correct in my answer but I've given it a shot So lets say 1 Gallon is 3.78541 litres and each litre = 1000 millilitres We also know that 1 gram is 0.0022 pounds(2.2 pounds = 1 kg) so I converted 1.034 g to pounds first. that is = 0.0022795798 pounds and this is in each millilitre How many millilitres are in a litre? 1000 I multiply 0.0022795798 x 1000 to get density of milk in 1 litre that is 2.279pounds per litre We need it in gallons So we need 3.78541 litres, multiplying this number on both sides(pounds and litres) we get = 8.62694939 pounds per gallon I hope I'm right, can someone please verify?
I was able to work this one out on my own earlier, since no one was giving any advice at the time when I posted this. But you are correct in your answer, and I really appreciate you taking the time to give your assistance. Thank you.
