Geometry question about area and similar shapes (i will post pic below along with my answer in the pic) could you check please? thank you!
that is not what i get how did you get it?
i divided 39/27 =1.4444 so i thought it would have a scale factor of 1.4444 so i multiplied the smaller trapexoid area times 1.44444= approx 1027
the ratio of the sides is \(\frac{39}{27}=\frac{13}{9}\) or what you wrote as a decimal, but the area goes with the square
in other words the ratio of the areas is \[\frac{169}{81}\] the square of the ratio of the sides
clear or no? we could do a very simple example to see it if one square has sides 1, and the other has side 2, then the area of the first one is 1, and the areas of the second is 4, the square of the ratio
im not following, you lost meat the 169/81
ok lets go slow and use my example of a square no different for trapezoids |dw:1452911601165:dw|
the ratio of the sides of the two squares, larger to smaller, is \(2:1\) or just \(2\) but the ratio of the areas is \(4:1\) or \(4\) the length of the larger one is twice the length of the smaller, but the area is 4 times as large
@satellite73 I am so sorry my laptop died okay i might be totally lost but can you do 1.444 squared = 2.08 and 2.08* 711 = 14.78.88 or am i totally lost again? Sorry i am really trying here
yes you can do it that way
i would have solved \[\frac{169}{81}=\frac{x}{711}\] but if you are using a calculator that way works too
actually hold on let me check your answer
so 1478.88 would be the answer?
ok i will wait :)
using the ratios i got, i got something close \(1483.4\) probably different do to rounding
rounding with decimals can be somewhat tricky especially non terminating ones
Alright well, ima go with what I got bcuz the way i worked it out is more similar to what i was shown in the past ... and i weighted and rounded at the very end instead of rounding each input value individually
ima stick with the 1,79 (thats rounded to the nearest whole number like it says)
lol whatever floats your boat at least you know to square the ratio to get the areas right?
*1,479
yes i did learn that !
ok good!
