Describe the role of photosynthetic organisms, such as plants, in converting the energy of light to energy that can be used by all living things including the photosynthesizers themselves. Be sure to follow the flow of energy from the sun to living things.

OpenStudy (rose4825):

My answer: Photosynthetic organisms are the only organisms that can convert light energy into chemical or usable form of energy for other organisms. The sunlight, primary source of energy, provides energy for photosynthesis in plants to grow, and then the plant is eaten by some animal. Then the plant-eating animal is eaten by another animal or me for energy. I may eat the animal that ate the plant or eat the plant directly for energy as well. Without sunlight, the plants would not be able to grow and animals that are primary consumers of plants would not be able to live and humans would not have anything to eat, which would lead to the food chain being broken. This would make the sunlight the primary source of energy for all types of living things. Light from the sun drives photosynthesis, then photosynthesis changes light, water and carbon dioxide into glucose, then living organisms consume the glucose in food, and lastly the cells transfer the digested food into ATP.
