OpenStudy (shaleiah):

Hello. I have to find the missing side and round to the nearest tenth

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

Would I use cos?

OpenStudy (lynfran):

you can use tan theta

OpenStudy (lynfran):

since the give a right angle triangle and the opposite side is given along with theta being 73 and the want "x" the adjecent side

OpenStudy (lynfran):

so ...tantheta=opp/adj

OpenStudy (lynfran):

tan 73=19/x

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

5.8

OpenStudy (lynfran):

x=19/tan73

OpenStudy (lynfran):

make sure ur calculator is in degree mode ... i currently dont have a calculator with me to verify your answer

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

Yes, it's in degree mode. :)

OpenStudy (lynfran):

ok yes ur correct i use an online calculator

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

Would it be rounded to 5.9?

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

8 is higher than 5.

OpenStudy (lynfran):

5.80888 no actually to 2decimal place 5.81 or to whole number 6

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

Thank you Lyn!

OpenStudy (lynfran):

welcome

OpenStudy (freckles):

nearest tenth would mean the answer is 5.8

OpenStudy (freckles):

nearest hundredth would mean the answer would be 5.81

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

Thanks @freckles

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

How would I find a angle?

OpenStudy (freckles):

do you know how to determine what side is opp and what side is the adj to the angle being asked about? or do you even know what the hyp of a right triangle is?

OpenStudy (freckles):

the hyp is the longest side of a triangle...it is the side that can always be found opposite to the 90 degree angle (opp->it doesn't touch the angle) the opp of the angle in question will not touch the angle being asked about by process of elimination this should tell you what the adjacent side is

OpenStudy (shaleiah):

Yes, the hyp is 41

OpenStudy (freckles):

|dw:1453318412438:dw|

OpenStudy (freckles):

process of elimination|dw:1453318535945:dw| tells us this side is the adj
